Day 3 (part 2) 1,031 miles

"Michigan, My Michigan, a song to thee, fair state of mine..."
- Michigan State Song

Well, it is not my home, but for tha one-day visit, I would agree that the Wolverine State is quite a fair state. How can you not appreciate a place that has a posted speed limit of 70 mph! Yes, for those concerned individuals, this mister has been behind the wheel, learning first hand the rules of the road with each passing day. Adrienne's hair has not turned white (yet), and again cruise control keeps me from putting the pedal to the metal (figuratively).
Day 3 marked two major milestones on our epic journey. First, we reached the first 1,000 miles of our 5,000+ trip, and we had our first night camping.

For two city-slickers with barely any experience in the great outdoors, making the decision to camp for half of our trip was a bit risky. I have friends who camped, I've seen a lot of nature shows on PBS, and Adrienne and I practiced setup inside our apartment once. We could do this, right? Better still, our campgrounds were surrounded by families living out of their campers/RVs with nary a tent to be seen.

Thankfully, we are both here today, to say that we would do it all again, in fact, probably Saturday. After enjoying a fine Mexican meal at Nina's Taqueria in nearby Augusta, we went for a nice 4mi hike around the park. Once we made it back to camp, after sunset (9:30pm), we began the task of starting a fire. With gathered bundles of twigs, sticks, and branches, Tuesday's Toronto News, a lighter, and $5 worth of firewood, we made the unbelievable happen: FIRE!

Fun Fact of the Day : The Great Lakes make up 95% of America's fresh water, and 20% of the world's.

Next Stop: Chicago, IL

Hey you two novice campers. WAy to go! How do you like living in a tiny piece of fabric for the night? Where are you camping in Montana? Up in Glacier? Make sure you stay in designated camping areas up there (i.e. for the gun-toting park rangers), and don't leave food in your tent. I know a girl whose tent was invaded by a grizzly for a chapstick. Seriously.

All right campers! A couple of tips from my camping experience: Always keep a gallon of fresh water with you, keep your food in a bag tied up over a branch our of the reach of animals, and never NEVER eat the spotted mushrooms, no matter how good they look.
