. Woke up early this morning with the goal of beating the midday heat on a hike into the Canyon. We drove out to the Kaibab Trail, and then started our descent. We went down to "Cedar Ridge," which was an elevation change of 1,140 feet, and 3 miles round-trip. Now, the one MAJOR difference with hiking a canyon is that the painful part is the way out. That, coupled with the intense heat, made it pretty exhausting. Luckily, we left early, and a bunch of the trail was in the shade. The whole affair took us about 2 hours, which was well worth it.
We never did see the Colorado River in the canyon (there are dire warnings everywhere saying that you are a fool and will die if you try to go to the river and back in a day), which I found a bit disapponting, but we are still alive to see our next destination, Sin City, Las Vegas! JMB is manning the wheel, as we cruise our way to Nevada! More later...

I love the picture of JMB when you arrived at the GC. It almost looks like you superimposed him on the scenery in the background...did you?
