After lounging some more by the pool, and getting Camilla an oil change, we said a sad goodbye to Jason, Lizzy, and her patents (by the way, if you are planning to go to Britain some time soon, check them out at www.interlinersbritain.com). Next stop: Grand Canyon!
We arrived at the park around 6ish, and were doubtful about the campsite possibilities, seeing as they only have two campgrounds. But the road trip gods were smiling on us, for as we were walking away from the campground counter, about to try another site further afield, the ranger called me over and said that they just had a cancellation, so there was one site available. What luck!
Having settled in, we went to watch the sun setting over the canyon. It was beautiful. Seriously, the G.C. is amazing. And it is crazy that you really can walk right up to the edge (and over, if you aren't careful)! It was mobbed with people (again, mostly foreigners), but that didn't seem to matter.
Went to dinner at the Arizona Room at the Blue Angel Lodge, right on the rim (it would be a great place to eat while the sun was out so you could see the view!). Then back to camp to sleep under the stars. And what stars they were. I have never seen stars like this, not in Vermont, St. John, Culebra, Yellowstone...nowhere. It was absolutely mesmerizing. You could clearly see the Milky Way, and there were dozens of shooting stars. What a way to fall asleep.

nice.
Over the weekend I missed reading the daily account of your fabulous vacation. Such a range of experience & fun; from "show down" at camp-site to VIP treatment at a concert to simply oaking in the Arizona sun. Love, d
P.S. This is the 3rd time that I had to set up a new account with Mr. G. Clearly I need a remedial tutorial in blogging!
