Woke up this morning and enjoyed a free continental breakfast with our Toronto motel before heading back on the open road. Luckily, the Motor City welcomed us with open arms, as we had no trouble crossing from Windsor, Canada, into Detroit. We had lunch at another one of "Road Food's" favorites, Lafayette Coney Island--not a favorite of mine. Eat here frequently and die early...as though a plain hot dog isn't bad enough, they slather it with chili and condiments. Ugh.
Also checked out a neighborhood called the Heidelberg Project, which is a block's worth of art/trash decorating the empty lots and sketchy buildings. It was interesting, and I'm glad we found the street. But the bottom line is: if you skip Detroit entirely, don't be too heartbroken...you won't have missed much! On to Fort Custer State Park for our first night camping!

Happy camping, Bowmans! Very much enjoying your blog. You inspired me. I started one on blogspot, too. californiahousewife
not to be obnoxious and teachery, teachers, but shouldn't it say "bowmans' cross-country" or bowmen's cross-country"?
