Day 14, July 20 (part 1)
Woke up this morning, glad to see the first day of my 29th year, and have not been mauled by a bear during the night. It is hard to know whether the parks department makes a big deal about bears to make sure people don't do idiotic things, or whether there really is a problem. Who knows...we saw nary a bear during our time at Glacier.
After a beautiful morning hike to Avalanche Lake, it was goodbye Glacier! We are currently on our way to visit Sam and Sharma in Sagle, ID. Thanks for all of the birthday wishes that have been sent my way!

I've been getting a kick out of following your adventures. Just got back from camping with my parents and toddler: Holly's self-taught "what to do if I see a bear" plan was to hold out her hand like a traffic cop, shout 'stay back' and growl back at it. Then when she saw one she screamed and climbed my chest like a tree--not an unreasonable response! Enjoy your next miles...

Happy Birthday, Adrienne! What a beautiful way to spend your day. I keep waiting to see news that you are coming in to town. We would love it!!! Remember local food: fish tacos, avocado, sushi, and we're claiming Anchor Steam beer and all wines produced south of Santa Barbara. Tons of blog fodder here, sister. Happy trails!
Happy (belated) birthday Adrienne! What a beautiful picture. BTW, got your postcard from the SPAM museum... We miss you guys!
happy belated birthday Ms. Bowman! Love the braids, Mr. Bowman...what a wonderful adventure. I just wrote Laura and said that between her trip to Argentina and your xcountry journey, I can vicariously travel all over the place this summer. Love it. Miss you! xo and kumbaya, Hanna
